This site shares our first hand experience in dealing with elder care. This site is for you! If you are going through this process now or just thinking about it, let our first hand experience at least help you become more efficient along the way. We will share what we learned, resources that were helpful and those that were not. We discuss our pitfalls, the emotional roller coaster, the decision process, the path we took, the financial impact, the setbacks and the triumphs. The journey we undertook in discovery that our mother-Martha’s journey would be both painful and rewarding.
There are many web sites listings for “assisted living”; most are for places to live in such circumstances. A few even offer help by posting links to various sites offering very specific information on very specific topics. This site is just one family’s 101 experiences in assisted living. How we got there, what and who helped along the way and the government financial help of $976 per month that made it possible.
We are not lawyers, doctors, therapists, or other “experts”. We are just a family like yours who had a lot to learn, made a lot of mistakes, didn’t ask the right questions, and were just not prepared to begin this journey. So please read on, it is our hope that you find this site, this journey helpful in your own journey and others wishing to share their stories will do so here. As stories are told and experiences shared on this site, it is our sincere hope that we can help make this process as painless as possible for ALL family members. You can share your thoughts and experiences with us at: marthas-journey@comcast.net. We look foward to hering from you!
